This always happens to me. I have so much I want to write, I end up foregoing most of it, because it's too overwhelming to actually get it all down. Prioritize? Let's see if it works (alternately, whether I stick it out).
The week was busy, as usual. I don't remember much of the beginning, but the winding down part was fun. We've been doing workshops in my Honors seminar, which is the only class I actually have enjoyed this semester. We have some amazing writers in our class! It makes me shy about sharing anything I write, because I feel like I have nothing that can compare... Plus I've been having issues w/ my personal statement, which doesn't help. The PS and I are like a bickering married couple. I hung out w/ one of my seminar friends after class this Thursday, which was fun =)
Friday wasn't too eventful. Went to work for most of the morning. Our relatively new grad student (he's been around since midway through last semester), Ian, is awesome! He and I are almost on the same level of nerd-ness (though in many respects, we each outstrip the other). He's pretty much the only person in lab aside from me who actually watches TV shows, especially 24, so we always have something to talk about. This Friday, it was comics, specifically X-Men (yes, precipitated by the Friday release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Anyway, good times with Ian, and hilarious times with Naili, our lab tech. There was a reception for business school fellows ~3pm, but it was rather boring. Talked to Akshay mostly, met some of his friends, chatted w/ Dean Cleveland for a bit, then I split (early).
Took the bus home for the weekend. I got my hair cut Friday evening! That was fun. Too bad I was 2 inches short of a donation... My hairdresser (aka my mom's hairdresser) turned out to be a month and 14 days younger than me, which was a little weird. I can't imagine not going to college after high school and graduating with a degree before deciding what I want to do. I don't mean to sound bigoted (bigotted?) in saying that; it's just a foreign concept to me. More power to her, though. She's a really cool person! And, of course, I like my haircut, so plus points, though she was a great conversationalist, so she would've won that encounter regardless.
I was going to head back to campus Saturday afternoon for Relay for Life. Unfortunately, my mom wasn't feeling too good this morning, so I decided to stay home and spend some time with her. Her medical complications just won't go away, which is frustrating, and a little scary. Thankfully it's nothing immediately serious, but it's one of those chronic aches/pains that can get scary in the long run.
Speaking of scary, our neighborhood is getting scarier. While my mom and I were out (this was around 9pm), some guys rang our doorbell repeatedly and ran off. This isn't the first time it's happened. Backstory: A month or two ago, a couple of guys tried to get into our house through the garage as my dad was pulling in one evening. Another two kids, a month or two before that incident, tried to pick my dad's pocket while he and my mom were walking around the neighborhood around 7pm. For the garage incident, my dad called the police. That was frightening in and of itself; now it feels like targeting. I hope it's just a bunch of kids who think it's funny... that's still malicious, but at least to them, it'd just be a prank. Who knows.
I heard a revelation today which reaffirmed my faith in my ability to read people. That faith has been faltering lately, mostly because of some of my friends who aren't really friends anymore. Well, maybe they are. I can't really tell. As you can see, my faith is faltering. It's disheartening, and you'd think I'd learn from experience.
People pull through for you when you least expect it. These past couple of weeks have been frustrating in their own ways because the semester is winding down, and that always means an increase in busy-ness, but it's still been fun. College friends? Rock. I'll give a few shout-outs; if they ever read this, they'll recognize their own initials -- DMM, NKJ, RCB, TL, SMP, EZL, ES. I'm sure I forgot someone, but I mean well.
I can't actually keep up with all the stuff Di puts on his blog, so I'm not even going to try. If the mood strikes me, I might throw stuff in =P For now, I'll end with a picture of me and my sister from the Cherry Blossom Festival, b/c it was gorgeous! And because it was my first time climbing a tree (albeit a very short one). That's all Erik's fault =P
